Becoming - Michelle Obama

I read the book ' Becoming' by Michelle Obama and watched Oprah Winfrey's interview of Michelle Obama. These are some takeaways for us- women. 1. Never depend on your spouse to make you happy. Your happiness is your responsibility. Instead of focusing on what he's not doing, let's focus on how to carve our own niche and lead a purposeful life. Don't wait for the arrival of Man of house to begin your life or your children's life. 2. Walk your own walk. Don't compare your walk with others lest we cannot enjoy our own walk. 3. The best thing about your body is it's healthy. We can wake up from our bed and do all functions effectively. Don't be too judgemental about your body. 4. Never let a bully's insults or aggression get to you personally. It's not about you, but them that they bully. When they go low, we go high.

Password changed life

How a Password Changed a Life ... A true story from Readers Digest I was having an average morning until I sat down in front of my office computer. "your password has expired”, a server message flashed on my screen, with instructions for changing it... In my company, we have to change passwords monthly.. I was deeply depressed after my recent divorce. Disbelief over what she had done to me was what I thought all day long .... I remembered a tip I’d heard from my former boss. He’d said, “I’m going to use a password that is going to change my life”. I couldn’t focus on getting things done in my current mood.. My password reminded me that I shouldn’t let myself be a victim of my recent breakup and that I was strong enough to do something about it. I made my password – Forgive@her. I had to type this password several times every day, each time my computer would lock. Each time I came back from lunch I wrote forgive her. The simpl...

Responding to Mistakes

His phone rang in church by accident during prayers. The Pastor scolded him. The worshippers admonished him after prayers for interrupting. His wife kept on lecturing on his carelessness all the way home. His co-vineyard workers shook their heads in disgust You could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face. He never stepped foot in the church again. That evening, he went to a bar. He was still nervous and trembling. He spilled his drink on the table, bottle falls by accident and it splashed on some people. Those it touched rushed towards him. He closed his eyes expecting bashing of words or slaps. Instead they cared to know if he didn’t get a cut from the broken bottle. The waiter apologised and gave him a napkin to clean himself. The janitor mopped the floor. The female manager offered him a complimentary drink. She also gave him a huge hug and a peck while saying, "Don't worry man. Who doesn't make mistakes?" He has not stopped going...

Brother like that

A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. “Is this your car, Mister?” he asked. Paul nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was astounded. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing? Boy, I wish . . .” He hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels. “I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”

Journey is so short

A young lady sat in a bus. At the next stop a loud and grumpy old lady came and sat by her. She squeezed into the seat and bumped her with her numerous bags. The person sitting on the other side of the young lady got upset, asked her why she did not speak up and say something. The young lady responded with a smile: "It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is so short. I get off at the next stop." This response deserves to be written in golden letters: "It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short" If each one of us realized that our time here is so short; that to darken it with quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, discontentment and a fault finding attitude would be a waste of time and energy. Did someone break your heart? Be calm, the journey is so short. Did someone betray, bully, cheat or humiliate you? Be calm, forgive, the journey is ...

We are made to fly

Once there was a king who received a gift of two magnificent falcons. They were peregrine falcons, the most beautiful birds he had ever seen. He gave the precious birds to his head falconer to be trained. Months passed, and one day the head falconer informed the king that though one of the falcons was flying majestically, soaring high in the sky, the other bird had not moved from its branch since the day it had arrived. The king summoned healers and sorcerers from all the land to tend to the falcon, but no one could make the bird fly. He presented the task to the member of his court, but the next day, the king saw through the palace window that the bird had still not moved from its perch. Having tried everything else, the king thought to himself, “May be I need someone more familiar with the countryside to understand the nature of this problem.” So he cried out to his court, “Go and get a farmer.” In the morning, the king was thrilled to see the falcon soa...

Be happy

As I sat in the park after my morning walk, My wife came and slumped next to me. She had completed her 30-minute jog. We chatted for a while. She said she is not happy in life. I looked up at her sheer disbelief since she seemed to have the best of everything in life. "Why do you think so?" "I don't know. Everyone tells I have everything needed, but I am not happy."Then I questioned myself, am I happy?  "No," was my inner voice reply. Now, that was an eye-opener for me. I began my quest to understand the real cause of my unhappiness, I couldn't find one. I dug deeper, read articles, spoke to life coaches but nothing made sense. At last my doctor friend gave me the answer which put all my questions and doubts to rest. I implemented those and will say I am a lot happier person. She said there are four hormones which determine a human's happiness - Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin. It is important we understand these hormones, as...

Increasing value

I found this so inspiring, so I thought I should forward it: Michael Jordan was born in 1963, in the slums of Brooklyn, New York. He had four  siblings and his father's earnings were not sufficient to provide for the whole family. He grew up in a poor neighbourhood. Exposed to mindless violence and heavy discrimination in the slums, he saw for himself only a hopeless future. His father saw in Michael, a lost soul and decided to do something. He gave Michael, who was 13 years old, a piece of used clothing and asked: "What do you think the value of this outfit would be?" Jordan replied,"Maybe one dollar." His father asked, "Can you sell it for two dollars? If you can sell it, it would mean that you are a big help to your family." Jordan nodded his head, "I'll try, but no guarantee that I'll be successful." Jordan carefully washed the cloth clean. Because they didn't have an iron, to smoothen the cloth, he l...

Create pictures for future

Rhonda Byrne says:  "Neville recommends at the end of every day, before you go to sleep, to think through the events of the day. If any events or moments did not go the way you wanted, replay them in your mind in a way that thrills you. As you recreate those events in your mind exactly as you want, you are cleaning up your frequency from the day and you are emitting a new signal and frequency for tomorrow. You have intentionally created new picture for your future. It is never too late to change the pictures."

Spiritual story by Paulo coelho

"The Ancestor's Bones" -------------------- "There was a king of Spain who was very proud of his ancestors, and who was known for his cruelty to the weak. One time, he was walking with his advisers across a field in Aragon, where - years before - he had lost his father during a battle, when he found a holy man searching a large pile of bones. " What are you doing there?" - asked the king. "Honored greetings, Your Majesty," said the holy man. "When I heard that the king of Spain was coming this way, I resolved to recover the bones of your late father and present them to you. But however hard I search, I cannot find them: They are exactly the same as the bones of country folk, the poor, beggars and slaves.""

Magical two words

Rhonda Byrne says: "There are two words that, when spoken, have the most unfathomable power to completely change your life. Two words which, when they pass your lips, will be the cause of bringing absolute joy and happiness to you. Two words that will create miracles in your life. Two words that will wipe out negativity. Two words that will bring you abundance in all things. Two words which, when uttered and sincerely felt, will summon all the forces and vibrations in the Universe to move all things for you. The only thing standing between you, happiness, and the life of your dreams is two words THANK YOU!"

Self analysis

Paramahansa Yogananda says : "Millions of people never analyze themselves. Mentally they are mechanical products of the factory of their environment, preoccupied with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, working and sleeping, and going here and there to be entertained. They don't know what or why they are seeking, nor why they never realize complete happiness and lasting satisfaction. By evading self-analysis, people go on being robots, conditioned by their environment. True self-analysis is the greatest art of progress."

Push yourself

Charlotte Eriksson says : "It's about personal development. It's about creating your own character and pushing it to the limit. It's about pushing yourself so far out of your own and everybody else's idea of who you are and what you're capable of, that you no longer believe in limits. It's about reaching beyond your so-called potential, because your potential is never where you or anyone else expects it to be, not even close. It's about being able to say with the last breath of your life “I used all my potential and all my talents and pushed myself to the limit. I could not have fought any harder."

The Last Lecture

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”  “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.”  “Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted. And experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer.” “The key question to keep asking is, Are you spending your time on the right things? Because time is all you have.  Time is all you have and you may find one day that you have less than you think.”   ”  “It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to lead your life, ... If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you." “Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most po...

Stop Discrimination!!!

Image
It was a crowded flight and a beautiful lady aged around 40 years boarded the flight as the passenger. She searched for her seat and found her seat was next to a black man. She showed that she wasn’t in a hurry to take her seat as she found it too hard and awkward to sit next to a black man. Feeling disgusted, the beautiful lady called the air hostess and asked her to change her seat. The air hostess requested for a reason why she would like to change the seat. She replied, “It is impossible for me to sit next to a black man, I hate it! The air hostess was shocked to hear these hard words from the one who looked so dignified and composed. She again demanded her to get her a new seat. The airhostess said she would do so and requested her to wait for a few minutes. The air hostess went in search of an empty seat for the lady. The air hostess told the lady, ‘I’m afraid Madam, there is no vacant seat in the economy class and the flight is almost full! However, we do...

Unfair to be ONLY Rich.

Are we earning to pay builders and interior designers, caterers and decorators?   Whom do we want to impress with our highly inflated house properties & fat weddings? Do you remember for more than two days what you ate at someone's marriage?  Why are we working like dogs in our prime years of life? How many generations do we want to feed? Most of us have two kids. Many have a single kid.  How much is the "need" and how much do we actually "want"??  Think about it. Would our next generation be incapable to earn, that we save so much for them!?! Can not we spare one and a half days a week for friends, family and self?? Do you spend even 5% of your monthly income for your self enjoyment?  Usually...No. Why can't we enjoy simultaneously while we earn?    Spare time to enjoy before you have slipped discs and large prostates. We don't own properties, we just have temporary name on document...

Delay Judgement....

Image
A lovely little girl was holding two apples with both hands. Her mum came in and softly asked her little daughter with a smile; my sweetie, could you give your mum one of your two apples? The girl looked up at her mum for some seconds, then she suddenly took a quick bite on one apple, and then quickly on the other. The mum felt the smile on her face freeze. She tried hard not to reveal her disappointment. Then the little girl handed one of her bitten apples to her mum,and said: mummy, here you are. This is the sweeter one. No matter who you are, how experienced you are, and how knowledgeable you think you are, always delay judgement.   Give others the privilege to explain themselves.                                  What you see may not be the reality. Never conclude for others. Which is why we should never only focus on the surface and judge others with...
