Becoming - Michelle Obama

I read the book ' Becoming' by Michelle Obama and watched Oprah Winfrey's interview of Michelle Obama. These are some takeaways for us- women. 1. Never depend on your spouse to make you happy. Your happiness is your responsibility. Instead of focusing on what he's not doing, let's focus on how to carve our own niche and lead a purposeful life. Don't wait for the arrival of Man of house to begin your life or your children's life. 2. Walk your own walk. Don't compare your walk with others lest we cannot enjoy our own walk. 3. The best thing about your body is it's healthy. We can wake up from our bed and do all functions effectively. Don't be too judgemental about your body. 4. Never let a bully's insults or aggression get to you personally. It's not about you, but them that they bully. When they go low, we go high.

Password changed life

How a Password Changed a Life ... A true story from Readers Digest I was having an average morning until I sat down in front of my office computer. "your password has expired”, a server message flashed on my screen, with instructions for changing it... In my company, we have to change passwords monthly.. I was deeply depressed after my recent divorce. Disbelief over what she had done to me was what I thought all day long .... I remembered a tip I’d heard from my former boss. He’d said, “I’m going to use a password that is going to change my life”. I couldn’t focus on getting things done in my current mood.. My password reminded me that I shouldn’t let myself be a victim of my recent breakup and that I was strong enough to do something about it. I made my password – Forgive@her. I had to type this password several times every day, each time my computer would lock. Each time I came back from lunch I wrote forgive her. The simpl...

Responding to Mistakes

His phone rang in church by accident during prayers. The Pastor scolded him. The worshippers admonished him after prayers for interrupting. His wife kept on lecturing on his carelessness all the way home. His co-vineyard workers shook their heads in disgust You could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face. He never stepped foot in the church again. That evening, he went to a bar. He was still nervous and trembling. He spilled his drink on the table, bottle falls by accident and it splashed on some people. Those it touched rushed towards him. He closed his eyes expecting bashing of words or slaps. Instead they cared to know if he didn’t get a cut from the broken bottle. The waiter apologised and gave him a napkin to clean himself. The janitor mopped the floor. The female manager offered him a complimentary drink. She also gave him a huge hug and a peck while saying, "Don't worry man. Who doesn't make mistakes?" He has not stopped going...

Brother like that

A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. “Is this your car, Mister?” he asked. Paul nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was astounded. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing? Boy, I wish . . .” He hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels. “I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”

Meaningless goals

A farmer had a dog who used to wait by the roadside for vehicles to come. As soon as one came, he would run down the road, barking and trying to overtake the vehicle. One day the farmer’s neighbour asked the farmer “Do you think the dog is ever going to overtake those vehicles?” The farmer replied, “That is not what bothers me. What bothers me is what he would do if he ever caught one.” Many people in life behave like that dog who is pursuing meaningless goals.
